The season runs September through May. Outside those months, operators don’t fly at all — it’s not a matter of fewer available dates, flights simply don’t operate. If you’re planning a trip specifically around a balloon flight, build your dates within this window; there’s no way to book a flight in June, July or August regardless of how far ahead you plan.

Which month is best for a balloon flight?

What time of day do balloons fly, and why only sunrise?

Every flight departs at sunrise, with hotel pickup typically between 3:45 and 4:30 AM depending on your package. The reason is wind, not tradition: air is calmest in the hour or two around dawn, before the sun heats the desert floor and starts generating the thermal currents and breeze that build through a normal day. By mid-morning, conditions that were calm at 5 AM are often no longer suitable for flying. That’s also why you won’t find sunset balloon flights in Dubai — the wind pattern doesn’t offer the same calm window in the evening.

Does Ramadan or public holidays change anything?

Flight operations and timings stay the same through Ramadan and UAE public holidays — the season and sunrise-launch schedule aren’t affected.
